Born in Senegal, West Africa to a long ancestral line of griot drummers. Thione began to study the djembe at age five with mater drum teachers. He left Senegal in 1998 to live in Seattle, WA where we has been teaching and performing ever since. He has toured America, Canada & Japan sharing his culture and performing with the percussion ensemble he formed in 2001, Yeke Yeke.

DSD Comment:  Over the years we have had the opportunity to know Thione, play music with him on many occasions, and always witness his electrifying energy. Thione is son to famous Sabar player Mapathe Diop. He is a standout djembe player, character and regular fixture in the Seattle drum and dance scene. This cd is a choice selection for Senegalese style djembe.
